Thinks' research has vividly brought to life the experiences and challenges faced by health and care workers in Worcestershire and across the country

Post-pandemic and amidst ongoing system pressures, morale in the health and care workforce had reached new lows. As part of a plan to ensure the sector’s resilience, the Public Health Team at Worcestershire County Council (WCC) commissioned Thinks Insight and Strategy to conduct research to shape support for health and care professionals.

Through creative methods including journey mapping, letters to self and conversations with loved ones, the research team immersed themselves in the lived experience of participants and delivered in-depth insight which drove the introduction of new strategies to boost workers’ wellbeing.

This research has vividly brought to life the experiences and challenges faced by health and care workers across the country. The experiences of our participants in Worcestershire are by no means unique. The national health and care system is facing critical workforce challenges, as evidenced by national strikes and staff shortages. By clearly identifying learnings for system improvements and practical support, this work will make a difference for health and care professionals in a range of roles and settings across the country. Furthermore, local area insights, such as the importance of providing local opportunities and aspiration, have equal relevance for other local councils seeking to attract and retain their workforce.

“Innovatively designed, thoughtfully deployed and powerfully delivered, Thinks Insight & Strategy’s work exemplifies how research can drive meaningful change in the field of healthcare.” Award judges comment.

“We are well aware of the relevance of this research at a national and regional level and so have commissioned a video of the research findings so that it can be easily shared across networks and a variety of health and care systems and settings across the county."
